About The Department of Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering started its journey in 1977. Ever since the inception, it has been imparting quality education to under graduate students. The Department presently fosters five PG courses. A good number of research scholars are carrying out research in various fields. There are about a dozen laboratories with various research and testing facilities. The faculty consists of eminent specialists from diverse fields and there is commendable research ambience in the Department.

The vision of the Department of Civil Engineering is to achieve unique identity by development of knowledge resources and highly competent Civil Engineers in various fields of Civil Engineering to meet local, national, and global economic and social needs.


Mission of the Department of Civil Engineering

Our Mission goes as below:
The mission of the Department of Civil Engineering is to create knowledge resources and to educate and train youths in the latest technologies in Civil Engineering, to imbibe in them human values, self confidence and independent thinking in tackling diverse problems in the field of Civil Engineering so that they can serve the country and the human society at large.


Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) of the Department of Civil Engineering

Our programme educational objectives for the B.Tech. program in Civil Engineering are:

  1. To impart to admitted students Civil Engineering education and knowledge in contemporary science and technologies so that they can meet practical challenges of Civil Engineering problems.
  2. To train and equip the admitted students with knowledge of latest design codes and design philosophy.
  3. To inculcate in admitted students the sense of ethics, morality, professionalism, creativity, leadership, independent thinking and self confidence.
  4. To open the door of research world in students so that they feel an urge for higher studies and innovation.
Program Outcomes (POs) of the Department of Civil Engineering

The expected Program outcomes (POs) of the B.Tech. in Civil Engineering are as follows:

  1. Graduates will be able to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering in the solution of Civil Engineering problems.
  2. Graduates will demonstrate an ability to identify, formulate, analyze and solve Civil Engineering problems.
  3. Graduates will demonstrate an ability to design engineering structures, conduct experiments, analyze and interpret the resulting data.
  4. Graduates will demonstrate an ability to design a system, component or algorithms to meet desired needs within the context of civil engineering and considering realistic constraints.
  5. Graduates will demonstrate an ability to visualize and work on laboratory and multidisciplinary task.
  6. Graduate will demonstrate skills to use modern engineering tools, software and equipment to analyze and solve problems.
  7. Graduates will have an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
  8. Graduates will be able to communicate effectively.
  9. Graduate will show the understanding of impact of engineering solutions on the society, environment and awareness of contemporary issues.
  10. Graduates will develop confidence for self-education and ability for life-long learning.
  11. Graduates who can participate and succeed in competitive examinations.
Graduate Attributes

Following are the expected attributes of our graduate students:

  3. Students will be able to apply the communication skills and management principles necessary in the furtherance of Civil Engineering after completion of the humanities courses
  4. Students will be able to use Civil Engineering in diverse areas after completion of the Engineering breadth, professional electives, engineering core and practices and open elective courses
  5. Students will be able to design, analyze, implement and evaluate real life problems after completion of project works.
